Library Opening Hours During Semesters
This is to inform that from 7th November 2022, Library opening hours will be as follows:

Borrowing Library Materials
The library allows users to borrow a limited number of books and return them within a certain period of time. Different categories of users have different privileges. Borrowers are requested to return the books without exceeding the given time to avoid being fined.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students who are registered in the library system (Database) can use their ID cards to borrow books from the general collections.
Borrowers of books from special reserve collections are required to have special reserve cards. These cards are obtained upon request from the respective collections.
- All registered users are eligible to borrow materials from the general collections per library regulations.
- Users with special reserve cards can use special reserve and closed access materials upon showing their ID.
- The standard loan period is three weeks. Items may be renewed if not reserved by others.
- The borrower is responsible for returning borrowed materials.
- Overdue fines: TZS 1,000 per day for general items, TZS 500 per hour for special reserve items.
- Borrowers who fail to pay fines or replacement costs will face legal measures.
- Borrowers continuing studies or employment during vacation may borrow materials, loan period not exceeding the vacation duration.
- The Director reserves the right to recall any book(s) on loan before the due date.
- Borrowing limits: Undergraduate students – 2 books, Postgraduate students – 3 books, Academic staff – 5 books, Administrative staff – 2 books; return within 14 days.
- Lost books: Borrower charged current market cost + total overdue fines.
- Finalists failing to return books: withholding of results, transcripts, or certificates until items returned or fines paid.
- Lost special reserve card: report immediately, replacement cost TZS 2,000.
- External users may borrow materials for use within the library.
Information Literacy Training Programme
Information Literacy training programme is available for free to all IIM students and staff.
The training will help you to know your library and its resources and equip you with knowledge and skills in areas that include:
- Information sources
- Using Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC): Simple and advanced search techniques
- Database search strategies
- Information evaluation
- Systematic literature review
- Referencing
- And more...
Being information literate is:
- Knowing when you need information
- Strategizing to successfully locate, access, and apply the needed information
- Utilizing technology to locate and access relevant information
- Evaluating and applying information while following ethical and legal practices

Inter-Library Loan (ILL)
The Inter-Library Loan (ILL) service allows students and staff to request books, journals, and other resources not available in the IIM Library from partner libraries locally and internationally.
- Only registered IIM students, faculty, and staff can request materials through ILL.
- External users may be eligible upon prior approval and may be subject to fees.
To request materials:
- Login to the library portal and navigate to the Inter-Library Loan request form.
- Fill in the required details about the book, journal, or resource.
- Submit the request for library staff review.
- You will be notified when the requested item is available for collection or electronic access.
- All borrowed items must be returned by the due date to avoid fines.
- Items may not be renewed without approval from the lending library.
- Users are responsible for any damage or loss of borrowed items.
- Requests for rare or fragile materials may be limited to on-site use only.

Special Reserve / Card Registration
The Special Reserve collection contains high-demand and restricted-access materials. A special reserve card is required to borrow or consult these items.
- All registered IIM students and staff are eligible to request a special reserve card.
- External users may be allowed under specific arrangements and library approval.
- Visit the Special Reserve desk at the library.
- Fill in the Special Reserve Card request form.
- Provide valid student/staff ID for verification.
- Pay the applicable registration fee if required (e.g., TZS 2,000 for card replacement).
- Receive your Special Reserve card and instructions for use.
- Special Reserve items are for short-term use only and must be returned on the same day unless otherwise approved.
- Borrowers are responsible for any damage or loss of items.
- Replacement fee for lost cards is TZS 2,000.
- Items may not be taken out of the library unless specifically allowed.

Room Booking for External Users
External users can book library rooms for study sessions, meetings, or research activities.
- Contact the library office via email or phone to request a room.
- Provide your name, organization, and purpose of booking.
- Check availability and reserve a time slot.
- Receive confirmation and instructions for room use.
- Rooms must be used only for the approved purpose.
- Bookings must be made at least 2 days in advance.
- External users are responsible for any damage to library property.
- The library reserves the right to cancel bookings for official events or emergencies.
